Sinopec Refining & Chemical Group No.5 Construction Company's Jazan oil refining project in Saudi Arabia is an important overseas project. Saudi Aramco is building a 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery in the Jazan industrial complex, which will include a Chinese-owned Jazan gas turbine combined cycle power plant, which will provide sufficient power to the refinery. The Jazan refinery is expected to increase the country's total domestic refining capacity to about 3.3 million b/d, and Saudi Arabia is expected to compete with Asia's major diesel exporters once it enters commercial operations.
Sinopec and Saudi Aramco have deepened their cooperation in the refining and petrochemical industries, with the two sides cooperating on a number of projects, including a refining and chemical integration project in Fujian and a Yanbu refinery project in Saudi Arabia. These cooperation projects not only strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, but also support the realization of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and China's Belt and Road Initiative.
